Moving from their hometown of Seattle, Washington, Scott and Kyle relocated to Chicago pursuing new careers. Although both had visited Chicago, neither had spent much time in the Midwest. After a few months exploring Chicagoland they really took a liking to the people and places of the Midwest.
Always dreaming of owning an antique Queen Anne Victorian home they were surprised to find such a home in Kankakee listed on Craigslist.org. Not knowing where Kankakee was they plotted a course using MapQuest and head south from Chicago. One hour later they were standing in front of their dream home. An offer to buy the home was made the next day.
Calling Kankakee home it was decided to make another dream come true and establish a Bed and Breakfast. After much planning and many improvements the The Magruder House B&B became a reality.
Bullish on the B&B business, Scott and Kyle purchased the vacant home right next door in early 2008. In August of that same year The Burr Oak B&B opened for guests.
